PRIMARY ROOT CANAL TREATMENT
Endodontic treatment is the dental procedure performed in the office by an endodontist in order for the patient to keep his tooth in the barrier and to avoid the extraction and placement of an implant.
Caries through the microbes that grow on the tooth leads to infection of the pulp tissue (nerve) and gradually to its necrosis, resulting in pain for the patient.
The symptoms that the patient may experience are pain when cold, when hot and when chewing. Often, when the germs progress to the bone surrounding the root of the tooth, the patient may experience pain and a “pimple” in the gums that swells and drains pus (abscess), as well as swelling in the facial area.
The purpose of endodontic treatment is to eliminate microbes by removing the infected or necrotic pulp tissue (nerve), and to hermetically seal the root canals. The procedure can be performed in one or more appointments, depending on the case, and is performed under local anesthesia. After the endodontic treatment, the patient is referred to his general dentist, who will place a crown or seal to fully restore the functionality of the tooth.
With the magnification of the optical microscope and the use of the highest technology tools and biomaterials, the endodontist can provide success rates of more than 90%.
The patient is monitored by the endodontist with frequent re-examinations after 6 months, 1 year and 2 years, as defined by the international protocol.
